Let It Snow

We spent a gloriously quiet afternoon at home. The big kids played in the snow, then came in for hot chocolate, warm baths, and dinner. Our evening hours were spent TV-free, thank you very much, in front of the roaring fire and Christmas tree, reading and playing games. Josh and Sophie played Battleship and Scrabble, Ben toddled from book pile to Daddy's lap, back and forth, over and over, and later the girls came to the piano with me and sang Christmas primary songs.

Things don't come together like this very often, but when they do, they're beautiful. Hooray for a peaceful, happy, Christmas-y day.

Those Rockwell moments are rare and fleeting. It's nice to be aware of them when you are in the middle of it.

I have tried re-capturing them and to my dismay have learned they can't be forced.

Can you send some of that peaceful feeling across the street?

One thing (of the many) that I love about you is that you and your family seem to always "GET IT." You get what life is about, what family is about, what trials and blessings and jokes are about. I loved this post. I hope for many of those days as OUR family gets older.

Oh, Jessie, we don't always get it. In fact, that's why last night was so happy. When it all works out, it's fantastic...

What I didn't mention was how we hung out too late and ended up going to bed too late which made me uber-grumpy and frustrated that my children weren't asleep at 9:30.

So sometimes we get it, and sometimes we don't...isn't that just how life works?
